Promoting healthy and safety in mines rewarded

Mine workers and their families joined in the festivities, during which the NCCMA and Kalagadi manganese honoured employees from different mines in the Northern Cape. The awards were presented to employees who adhere to and promote safety, health and environmental conditions in the mines.

The Northern Cape Mine Managers Association (NCMMA) hosted Safety Health Environment (SHE) Day, held at the Kuruman Show Grounds.

Mine workers and their families joined in the festivities, during which the NCCMA and Kalagadi manganese honoured employees from different mines in the Northern Cape. The awards were presented to employees who adhere to and promote safety, health and environmental conditions in the mines.

“There is a belief that mining is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. An event like this is crucial to inculcate a culture that prompts every employee to take reasonable care of the environment as well as the health and safety of his or her colleagues,” says Wonder Zwane, the NCMMA chairperson and General Manager of Kalagadi Manganese.

The following mines listed below won the SHE Representatives categories:
Fulltime Health & Safety Representative
1st – Keakobega Sebuasengwe from Petra Finsch Mine
2nd – Lucky Moholoeng from Assmang Khumani Mine
3rd – Jones Boss from Assmang Beeshoek

Health & Safety Rep Advance
1st – Mpho Modisadihe from Idwala Lime
2nd – Golelane Mohaladi from Assmang Khumani Mine
3rd – Ronald Maseng from Petra Finsch Mine

Health & Safety Rep Novice
1st – Bertus Moolman from Assmang Khumani Mine
2nd – Nthabiseng Maine from Petra Finsch Mine
3rd – Thabo Yiko from Anglo-American Kolomela Mine

“Through their skills, training and hard work, miners attempt to control and manage the challenges of safety, health and environment, and many are good at it. It requires supreme vigilance every minute of every shift,” Zwane concludes.
