Increase your knowledge base at Securex

Securex 2017, being held from May 30 to June 1 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, is set to provide an abundance of opportunities for security and risk professionals to increase their knowledge base and gain a better understanding of industry trends.

The Securex Seminar Theatre, powered by Hi-Tech Security Solutions, will host numerous sessions presented by industry thought leaders over the three days of the exhibition, alongside the 2017 A-OSH Expo.

Scheduled for 9:30 on May 30 and June 1 are the SAIDSA Installer Workshop sessions, covering Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) legislation and electronic security training. On May 30 at 13:15 André Immelman, CEO of eyeThenticate, broaches the issue of whether your computer will be able to think like you. This glimpse into what may seem like sci-fi highlights the amazing research that has been carried out in areas such as Convolutional Neural Networks.

Another technology session not to be missed is the move towards artificial intelligence (AI), presented by Tharina van Wyk, regional marketing manager: Sub-Saharan Africa of Bosch Security Systems, at 14:15 on May 30. The evolution of building management systems is covered in Peet Geldenhuys’s talk on May 31 at 12:15. Still highly topical is the “Fees Must Fall” campaign. Manubela Chauke, CEO of PSiRA, will present a case study on the domino effect of this ongoing event.

Popular visitor attractions will include the Genesis K9 Group (GK9), which is hosting a stand for the first time with live demonstrations of highly trained security and detection dogs. New to Securex 2017 is the launch of a technical training component. Two morning and two afternoon sessions have been scheduled, covering topics such as surveillance for the entrepreneur (targeting end-users and installers), Internet Protocol (IP) surveillance and remote deployment (for entrepreneurs), storage know-how (installers), and IP convergence possibilities and solutions in industry (installers and end-users). Full details of each session will be available at www.trainingtech.co.za.
