A LEAP forward for SHEQ MANAGEMENT!

I am delighted to bring some truly wonderful news to the attention of our readers, advertisers and industry friends: SHEQ MANAGEMENT is now the official journal for the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Saiosh)!

This is tremendous news for both the magazine and Saiosh; we are kindred souls who will work together for the betterment of the industry as a whole. We have shared beliefs, too: Saiosh was created because its founders believed that death, injury, disease and waste cannot be regarded as an inevitable price to pay in the quest to produce the goods and services necessary for this country’s growth.

Similarly, SHEQ MANAGEMENT was formed because we believe that health, safety, environmental and quality issues are so important that they belong firmly in the boardroom!

Practically, our alliance has a number of tangible benefits. It is good news for paid-up Saiosh members, because they will receive their favourite magazine free of charge. Those same Saiosh members will also receive free fortnightly copies of our brand new electronic newsletter.

Naturally, like all our other valued readers, the Saiosh membership base will be able to access our website and app, too. We’re really proud of both our website and app; they have received international acclaim.

From a SHEQ MANAGEMENT perspective, I am utterly delighted to be associated with such a forward thinking and progressive organisation. As you will learn in this issue of the magazine (turn to pages 21 and 28), Saiosh educates, motivates, supports, informs, assists and lobbies on behalf of occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals.

Saiosh is also the registration authority for the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health South Africa (IOSH SA), which is recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) as a professional body to register OHS professionals in South Africa.

It offers four different levels of professional registration: Associate (AIOSHSA), Technical (TechIOSHSA), Graduate (GradIOSHSA) and Chartered (CMIOSHSA).

This institute clearly does a remarkable job; while so many other industry bodies are waning and dying, Saiosh is enjoying astounding growth. In fact, in just five-and-a-half years, it has grown from seven founder members to just under 5 000 members. It is growing at a rate just shy of 200 new members a month. How awesome!

I am really looking forward to attending and reporting on the many Saiosh activities – such as its workshops and conferences. I know that we will build a terrific relationship and we will also be able to glean lots of information for all our readers.

I am also delighted to grow the circulation of our magazine so dramatically – we have long prided ourselves on our large and growing subscriber base. However, this affiliation has really sky-rocketed our circulation figures!

The message is thus clear: the SHEQ MANAGEMENT and Saiosh collaboration is a real win on all fronts!
